Apostille & Document Authentication

Your FBI background check, apostilled. That's our specialty.

We handle exactly one thing: getting a digitally-issued FBI Identity History Summary authenticated by the U.S. Department of State for use abroad. One file per order, checked before you pay, submitted in person in Washington, D.C.

Coming from IdentoGO or Fieldprint?

Channelers like IdentoGO and Fieldprint get you your FBI Identity History Summary fast, then stop there. Neither one handles apostille authentication themselves; they'll point you elsewhere. That's exactly where we start: send us the PDF for a U.S. State Department apostille.

For teaching-abroad programs, work visas, dual citizenship, adoption, and residency filings: anywhere a foreign government asks for your FBI Identity History Summary to carry a U.S. Department of State apostille.

How it works

01

Upload for a free pre-check

Send your FBI Identity History Summary PDF. We check that it's the correct document, unedited, and current, before anything is charged.

02

Pay only if it clears

From $145, once your file passes. The exact rate depends on domestic vs. international shipping, or scan-only delivery (you'll choose after submitting). Nothing is charged on a failed pre-check; we'll tell you what to fix instead.

03

Submitted in person

We prepare the Department of State's DS-4194 request form on your behalf and take your document to their Washington, D.C. authentications office ourselves, not mailed in, which adds avoidable transfer time on the government's end.

04

Delivered to you

Your apostilled document heads back to you tracked, once the Department of State returns it.

Pricing

Every price below is genuinely all-in: the State Department's own $20/document authentication fee and standard return shipping are already folded in, not tacked on afterward. What you see is what you pay.

Included with every order
Federal authentication fee, paid to the U.S. Department of State Included
Free pre-check before you pay Included
Delivery tier Domestic International Scan only
Total In-person D.C. submission (incl. the $20 federal filing fee), verification & tracked USPS return$145 In-person D.C. submission (incl. the $20 federal filing fee), verification & tracked int'l courier return$275 In-person D.C. submission (incl. the $20 federal filing fee), verification & digital scan delivery$130
DomesticNo hidden line items, no charge if your document doesn't clear pre-check.
InternationalThe $130 gap is real cost, not markup — a fast courier able to actually beat mail-in turnaround times can run well over $100 depending on destination. We use a fast courier so an international order isn't slower than a domestic one.
Scan onlyOnly worth it if your destination accepts a scan instead of the physical original. Some do, some don't, and we're not the authority on any specific country's requirement. Change your mind later and want it shipped after all? That's available for an added fee, just ask.

Handling it yourself by mail? We also offer a $79 mail-in option (U.S. return addresses only), no courier trip, but meaningfully slower. Available as a delivery choice in the request form below.

Already confident it's ready?

If you've checked that your PDF is the correct FBI Identity History Summary (digitally signed, unedited, current), you don't have to wait on a reply first. Pay now and we verify immediately on our end, then submit as soon as it clears. If it doesn't pass our check, you're refunded in full before anything is submitted, no back-and-forth required.

Online payment isn't live yet, so for now this routes you to the request form instead, flagged as ready-to-go.

Skip the Wait — from $145

Why we only handle one kind of document

Most apostille services process birth certificates, diplomas, and marriage records alongside each other: a stack of different paper originals moving through the same office on the same day. We don't. Every order is a single digital file, start to finish.

One file per order

Nothing to mix up

A courier trip may carry a few other orders alongside yours, but never a different kind of document, and every order is tracked individually, so there's no mismatched label or wrong document in your envelope.

Checked first

Verified before you pay

We look at your document before any money moves, so you're not stuck waiting to discover something was wrong.

Hand-delivered

Submitted in person

Taken to the Washington, D.C. office directly, rather than mailed in through the government's own internal transfer step.

Questions

I don't have my FBI Identity History Summary yet — where do I get one?

You'll need that first — it's the one document we apostille, not the fingerprints themselves. See our guide to getting started for the FBI's approved channelers (IdentoGO, Fieldprint) and how to request a digitally-issued, apostille-ready copy. Once you have that PDF back, that's exactly where we pick up.

Can you apostille a birth certificate, marriage license, or other state document?

No, we only handle federal documents, specifically the FBI Identity History Summary. State-issued documents (birth certificates, marriage licenses, most notarized documents) get their apostille directly from that state's Secretary of State, not from us or the U.S. Department of State. A state apostille is normally the complete process on its own. The one exception is if your destination country isn't part of the Hague Apostille Convention, in which case a federal authentication step can be added on top of the state apostille: a longer embassy legalization process, and a different service we don't provide.

Is this affiliated with the FBI or the U.S. Department of State?

No. Pouch & Seal is an independent authentication and courier facilitation service. We are not part of, or endorsed by, the FBI or the Department of State.

What happens to my document and personal information?

We only collect what you give us through the request form: your name, contact info, the FBI report itself, and any notes you add — nothing more. Given how sensitive an FBI background check is, see our privacy policy for exactly what we collect, who (if anyone) sees it, and how long we keep it.

Do I need to mail you anything physical?

No. This service is specifically for FBI Identity History Summary results issued as a digital PDF. If your document is a physical original, this isn't the right service for it.

Do I have to request a quote, or wait to hear a price back from you?

No. The price shown above updates live as you choose your delivery type, extra copies, and any add-ons — that's the real, final number, not a starting estimate, and you never have to hand over contact info just to see it. Once your free pre-check passes, you can go straight from picking your options to paying, in one sitting; there's no separate quote step where we get back to you later.

What happens if my document doesn't pass the pre-check?

In the standard flow, you're not charged — we check your PDF first and only charge once it clears. If you used the fast-track option instead (pay upfront, verify immediately), and your document doesn't pass, you get a full refund before anything is submitted. Either way, we'll tell you exactly what needs fixing, usually a formatting or document-type issue, so you can try again.

Does passing the pre-check guarantee it'll be accepted?

No. Our check confirms your file is the correct, unaltered, current FBI Identity History Summary and that your destination qualifies for an apostille — it's an internal screen against the rejection reasons we see most often, not a legal review, and we can't speak for the Department of State. Rejection after a passed check is rare, but if it happens, see our terms for how we handle it.

I'm already living abroad — can you still help?

Yes, as long as you have your FBI Identity History Summary as a digital PDF. International shipping addresses are $275 flat instead of $145, since return shipping needs a fast courier (DHL/FedEx/UPS Express) rather than standard USPS to keep turnaround fast. Mention your location in your pre-check request and we'll confirm the details.

Can I order more than one copy of the apostilled document?

Yes. The majority of people order just one, but it depends on your needs. You might have multiple institutions or multiple countries that each need their own original at the same time, or want one for your own records. Extra copies of the same document are $70 each, up to 15 total per order, and you'll be asked how many you need after your free pre-check.

How long does this take?

Most orders take roughly two to four weeks end-to-end. The Department of State's own processing queue sets the floor and varies with their volume, so we'll give you a current, realistic estimate once your pre-check clears, rather than a fixed number we can't stand behind. We submit documents in person in regular rounds rather than making a special trip for every single order, which is part of how we keep pricing low. Need it faster? A paid rush option is available at checkout — see the next question for exactly what it guarantees.

What does the Rush option actually guarantee?

A dedicated trip to submit your document at our very next walk-in opportunity, not a fixed calendar promise like "next business day." The State Department's own walk-in window runs Monday through Thursday mornings only, so most of the week that next opportunity really is the next morning. If you order late Thursday through Friday evening, though, the next real opportunity is the following Monday, not Friday (which doesn't exist as a walk-in day). We'll show a clear note at checkout if that applies to your order, rather than letting "Rush" imply something it can't deliver that week. Rush also only affects how soon your document gets in front of the Department of State, not how long their own processing takes once it's submitted.

Is my FBI report already in English, even if I'm in Puerto Rico or requested it as a Spanish speaker?

Yes. The FBI Identity History Summary is issued in English only, nationwide and territory-wide, including Puerto Rico (the FBI doesn't produce a Spanish-language version). The apostille certificate itself is also in English.

Will my destination country need a translation of the apostilled document?

Possibly. Your FBI report and its apostille are both in English. If your destination country's official language isn't English, many receiving offices there require a certified translation as well, sometimes by a translator accredited within that specific country. Select your destination country in the request form below and we'll flag it if this is likely to apply. We don't provide translation ourselves, so confirm the exact requirement with whoever is requesting your documents.

Why might my package arrive from a different company's address?

For most orders, we handle everything directly. Occasionally, usually when it helps speed things along, we route fulfillment through a trusted partner service instead, and the shipping label may show their business name and address as the sender rather than ours. We cover any added cost of doing that ourselves; it never changes your price. If a package ever arrives that doesn't look like it's from us, just reach out and we'll confirm it right away.

Request a free pre-check

Tell us about your document. We'll follow up personally, no payment required to get started. Don't have the PDF on this device? Send everything else now; we'll follow up by email about the file whenever's convenient.

Typical turnaround for our in-person walk-in service is roughly two to four weeks end-to-end once your pre-check clears, though the Department of State's own processing volume is what actually sets the floor. Need it faster? A rush option is available in the next step: a dedicated trip at our next walk-in opportunity. Mail-in service is meaningfully slower (see the note on that option below before choosing it).

This is the only physical/digital handoff we need from you: your FBI report gets uploaded or emailed to us here, nothing to mail. No file handy? Submit the form anyway, and we'll email you to arrange a secure upload link or you can just reply with the PDF attached.

We're finishing account setup and aren't accepting orders yet. Check back soon.
